Tracey Emin

Tracey Emin CBE RA ( born July 3, 1963 in Croydon, London) is a British artist.

Life and career

She grew up in Margate, Emin is one of the Young British Artists ( YBA ). The daughter of an English mother and a Turkish Cypriot father attended a fashion and several art schools. She studied at Maidstone College of Art and the Royal College of Art in London. She is known for her autobiographical art and often provoked the interest of the media. One of her works, My Bed ( My bed, created in 1998 ), was included in the prestigious Turner Prize exhibition at the Tate Gallery in 1999. It consisted of her unmade bed, used condoms and blood-stained underwear.

In March 2007, the Royal Academy of Arts ( London) Emin chose a member.

David Bowie compared Emin: "William Blake as a woman, written by Mike Leigh ". Critics describe her art as a collection of passion, desire and life, coupled with raw openness.

The Kunstmuseum Bern is dedicated in March 2009, Emin a retrospective of her work over the past two decades. The exhibition banners large and ornate with slogans carpet embroidery, paintings, videos and installations as well as the well-known bed. Whether it is assigned to the concept art, or rather the "personal mythologies " direction, remains controversial. In Bern, we debated about whether Emin " is somewhere between Andy Warhol and Joseph Beuys. "

2011 Emin was appointed professor of the technical drawing at the Royal Academy of Arts. Thus, it is by Fiona Rae, the second female professor at the Royal Academy since its inception in 1768.

From 26 May to 23 September 2012, the Turner Contemporary in Margate under the title She Lay Down Deep Beneath the Sea: Tracey Emin at Turner Contemporary one of the most comprehensive retrospectives of the artist shown.
