Tracey Wickham

Tracey Lee Wickham OBE (* November 24, 1962 in Rosebud, Victoria ) is a former Australian swimmer.

Wickham's main disciplines were the medium-haul 400 and 800 meter freestyle. In the Commonwealth Games 1978 in Edmonton, she won at both tracks the gold medal. In the same year she put on two routes to a new world record. It was in this year, world champion in both disciplines and placed in the 400 -meter finals again set a world record, as the championship record by 2007 had stock.

At the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow, which were boycotted by many western countries for political reasons, she took as many other Australian athletes from a personal decision not participate, although the Australian Olympic Committee had decided against a boycott.

She took part in the Brisbane Commonwealth Games in 1982 and spoke at the opening ceremony of the oath of the athletes. She defended her title on both 400 and 800 meters. Shortly thereafter, she announced her departure. Their two 1978 established world records were broken in 1987.

In 1978 she was awarded the Order of the British Empire. In 1992, she was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the international swimming sport. In 2000 she received the Australian Sports Medal. For her contribution to the Australian swimming she got in 2005 also the Order of Australia Medal.
