Trachis

Trachis (Greek Τραχίς ) was one of the oldest cities and capital of the tribe of the people of Malians in ancient Greece. The town lay in the valley of the river at the foot of the south-west to Spercheios Ota massif.

In Greek mythology, the city is known as the home of Ceyx. Heracles should be gone here after the death of Eunomos into exile.

426 BC Sparta founded in the immediate vicinity of the new town of Heraclea Trachinia to support the oppressed from the tribe of Oitaier Malians. Trachis was overshadowed by the founding of the city soon.

The area surrounding the city was called after her Trachinia or after the tribe also Malieis.

The city lay to the south of the present village Iraklia in the community Gorgopotamos in the prefecture of Fthiotida in Greece.
