Tract (liturgy)

Tract is the oldest psalmodische solo song of the show and part of the changing according to the liturgical year pieces of Proper Pass.

He comes only during Lent, Holy Week and in Masses for the dead before, where he takes the place of hallelujahs. The tract is not associated with an antiphon, but all the verses of the Psalm be sung without interruption in a train. The lyrics include themes of repentance and mourning, but also those of hope, confidence and joy. The melodies in church modes offer the Psalm verses in richer melody than simple psalmody.

The name " tract " (Greek eirmós ) is since the Middle Ages as " solid vocals " (Latin: tractus cantus ) interpreted, because it is not broken by verse.

During the tractus the Missal from the Epistle side is worn on the Gospel side in the classical Roman rite. (Latin for bear )
