Tracta

The SA des Automobiles Tracta was a French manufacturer of automobiles.

Company History

Jean -Albert Grégoire and his partner Pierre Fenaille founded the company in 1926 in Versailles for the production of automobiles. A little later they moved to Asnières- sur -Seine. The brand name was Tracta. 1934 ended automobile production. A total of about 230 vehicles emerged.

Rolling stock

The company made in particular by the introduction of the front drive car with a name. Initially, only racing cars were produced, but were quickly and street versions. Independent front suspension with front wheel drive based on patents by Grégoire. Were used initially engines of the French manufacturer SCAP ³ 1100, 1200, 1500 or 1600 cm displacement. Upon request, a Cozette supercharger was available. The rigid rear axle was suspended in quarter-elliptical leaf springs.

Tracta achieved in 1929 by a class win at the 24 Hours of Le Mans attention (7th overall ). About 140 vehicles with SCAP engines were produced. Then, the company concentrated on the production of closed cars for the upscale market. Now, six-cylinder engines were used: With 2.7 liters of displacement of the U.S. manufacturer Continental or with 3 -, respectively, 3.3 liters of Hotchkiss. Of which emerged about 90 vehicles.

1934 started the recycling of patents. The patents of Grégoire could be sold to the Belgian company Imperia, the French company Automobiles L. Rosengart and the German company DKW and Adler works.
