Traffic volume

Traffic volume is a term from the transport theory ( Communications Engineering ) and from the traffic science.

Traffic Theory

When watching a channel group, it is found that assignments c alternating with different lengths and different occupancy times long pause times. The addition of all the occupation times of the observed channel bundle is the amount of traffic Y. The mean occupancy time is then given by.

The amount of traffic Y is the product of number of assignments c and the average holding time.

The unit of traffic volume is the Erlangstunde ( Erlh ).

Traffic volumes are determined in the context of dimensioning telecommunications equipment or parts. Hence, the market value is calculated.

Transport Economics

As traffic volume (VM ) is called in the traffic science a lot of places changing objects ( "Transport elements " ) ( VE).

These objects can be technical units such as vehicles, aircraft or ships, but also people or quantities of goods. Referring specifically to the latter two volumes of traffic, this is referred to traffic.

Derived from the amount of traffic, the traffic work (VA ) ( with s = distance ), the traffic volume (VS ) ( with t = time), as well as the traffic volume (VL ) ().
