Trafigura

Trafigura ( officially: Trafigura Beheer BV) is an international Dutch commodities trading company based in Amsterdam.

The company is mainly active in the trading of petroleum and petroleum products, renewable energy, non-ferrous metals, ores and concentrates for the industry. In the global trade in non-ferrous metals to Trafigura positioned as the second largest and trade with oil as the third largest independent company.

Trafigura employs around 1900 people and has 67 offices in 44 countries. The main offices are located in Amsterdam, London, Singapore and Geneva. In 2009 the company achieved a turnover of 47.4 billion U.S. dollars. Trafigura was founded in 1993 and is owned by its founding shareholders and the management. Trafigura is 100 % owner of Puma Energy, based in Geneva.

Scandal of toxic waste

2006 transported the ship Probo Koala toxic waste in the Ivory Coast in order to dispose of it there. Several residents have died of the consequences.

A Dutch court found the company guilty in July 2010 to have illegally exported toxic waste from Amsterdam and to have concealed the true contents of the cargo. In the published on 25 September 2012 Report " The Toxic Truth" Greenpeace and Amnesty International UK called on to conduct investigations against the company in the way.
