Trail Orienteering

Trail Orienteering Trail also orientation or shortly Trail -O, is a variant of the sport of orienteering, which is designed especially for athletes with disabilities. Since the Trail -O only the orientation performance counts and the movement speed does not matter, but the sport can also be exercised by non-disabled people. Internationally, the Trail Orienteering by the International Orienteering Federation ( IOF) is organized.

As with the conventional orienteering you have to orient the Trail -O with the help of a map and compass. In contrast to this, the items must be in the Trail -O not been examined directly, but can only be identified from a distance of viewpoints easily accessible. From every vantage point, several items are to be seen, with the help of map and control description then the posted items on the map on a specific multiple-choice control card shall be marked. History

Especially since the 1980s, there were several attempts to enable people with disability to have access to the sports orientation. One possibility was the wheelchair - orienteering. In contrast to this, the Trail - orientation, however, was developed with the aim to use only the technical performance orientation as a competitive basis, thus ensuring the same opportunities in competition for people of different physical performance.

European Championships were first held in 1994 and are held annually since then. In 1999, the IOF launched a World Cup and a World Cup is held annually since 2004 discharged.
