Trams in Lviv

The meter-gauge tram Lviv goes back to an opened on May 5, 1880 horse-drawn tram. This was owned by the Società Triestina Tramway, the operating company of the tram Trieste. The Lviv tramway company was taken over in 1906 by the city in 1908 and electrified.

In parallel, had opened another tram on May 31, 1894, the company Siemens & Halske. This was municipalized 1896. From 1 October 1922, the lines were converted to right-hand traffic.

After the end of World War II development of the system began. From 27 November 1952 lines were converted to trolleybus. Here, however, it took the form of underutilized routes. From the 1970s also lines were shut down in the city center. In 1988, the first fast tram route was opened.

The operation now comprises some 40 kilometers of track with almost 120 Tatra vehicles. Drove 1991, almost 140 million passengers on the tram, so it was 2002 only 60,000,000. In addition, a large proportion of the passengers, 65 percent, use the lanes for free due to laws. The debt of the company will be taken over by the state. 2007/2008 were purchased from the light rail Erfurt Tatra KT4. Also from the tram Gera were purchased Tatra KT4.

  • Easy drive: 1.50 UAH
  • Reduced ticket: 0.75 UAH
  • Luggage (20 x 40 x 60cm): 1.50 UAH
  • Increased travel charge: 30 UAH

From the Lviv a cappella group " Pikardijska Terzija " comes a popular song that the tram from Lviv sings ( " Starenki Tramwaj ", dt about " The ( love ) old tram ").
