Trần Đức Lương

Trần Đức Lương ( born May 5, 1937) from 1997 to 2006, the President of Vietnam.

He was born in the province of Quang Ngai and moved to finishing school in 1955 to Hanoi. There he studied geology and worked as a cartographer. In 1959 he joined the Communist Party of Vietnam and was in the 1970 party functionary. In 1987 he became deputy prime minister. Since 1996 he was a member of the Politburo, 1997, he was elected president of the country. He held until 27 June 2006 when he was replaced by Nguyen Minh Triet this office.
