Trans-en-Provence

Trans-en -Provence is a commune with 5546 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Var department in the Provence- Alpes- Côte d' Azur.

Geography

Trans-en -Provence is just a few kilometers south-east of Draguignan in Nartubytal between light, vine-covered elevations.

History

In antiquity, the Via Aurelia crossed that ran along the left bank of the Nartuby, today's Trans-en -Provence. A milestone is close to the chapel of Notre -Dame de Valaury. The Gutshof Gabre, near Notre -Dame de Valaury and Crouières archaeological significance shards were found from Gallo-Roman times.

In the year 1024 the city under the name Trancis appear in the sources. In the 13th century it was a fief of the Abbey of Saint -Victor, later one of the family of Villeneuve. By Louis XII. a barony under Louis de Villeneuve was built in 1505.

The castle was besieged during the Wars of Religion in 1579 by the Razats, Protestant, but also Catholic peasants who fought together against the landlords and the freedom of religion. The castle was burnt down, the lord of the castle killed.

In the 18th century there were two silk fabrications in place.
