Transatlantic (Band)

Transatlantic is a supergroup founded in 1999, consists of four musicians of the progressive rock scene.

History

As a founder of the band are Neal Morse (then Spock 's Beard ) and Mike Portnoy ( Dream Theater back then ), in 1999 with bassist Pete Trewavas ( Marillion ) came together. As a guitarist Jim Matheos ( Fates Warning ) was originally intended, but because of the difficulties terminlicher could not attend. Roine Stolt was instead ( The Flower Kings ) member.

The band's music is based significantly on large models from the Progressive Rock of the 1970s such as Yes, Emerson, Lake and Palmer, Jethro Tull and Genesis. Many tunes are from Morse's spring, but also Portnoy, Trewavas and especially Stolt contributed a lot in the songwriting. Between 2000 and 2002, the band released two studio albums SMPTe and Bridge Across Forever. For each of the albums a successful tour was conducted. Guest musicians were hired for the second of these tours Gildenlöw Daniel (keyboards, guitar, backing vocals ).

In 2002, the band members parted for the time being, after Morse had announced to want to now turn to Christian music. His former colleagues engaged since back stronger in their regular bands. Drummer Mike Portnoy has, however, also worked on five solo albums Morse, and Morse and Stolt continue to work on joint projects, most recently in the form of guest appearances on their respective solo albums.

In October 2009, appeared after nearly seven - year hiatus, the concept album The Whirlwind. On the tour Transatlantic were again musically supported by Daniel Gildenlöw ( Pain of Salvation ).

In addition to the three studio albums (the first two are available as a special edition with a bonus CD, The Whirlwind even in three versions), there are two double live albums (both available as VHS or DVD), Building the Bridge ( a making- of the second studio album on VHS or DVD), a compilation with demo versions and a remix album of their debut.
