Transdanubia

As Transdanubia ( " land beyond the Danube" to Latin Danubius " Danube" ) the right ( south and west ) of the Danube parts of the country are referred to in Hungary. The Hungarian name is Transdanubia.

The term encompasses the three western regions of Hungary, Western Transdanubia, Central and Southern Transdanubia, and the right of the Danube parts of Pest County. In the above-mentioned regions are the nine counties of Baranya, Fejér, Győr -Moson -Sopron, Komárom -Esztergom, Somogy, Tolna, Vas, Veszprém and Zala.

The opposite term Cisdanubien ( "land on this side of the Danube" ) is used less frequently. With this historical concept the north of the Danube lying parts of the Kingdom of Hungary are referred to, ie Upper Hungary (essentially today's Slovakia).
