Translocase

Translocases are proteins or protein complexes, depending on the specificity of allowing the passage of molecules between the two cell compartments, such as cytosol and mitochondria. Thus, the term is synonymous with transmembrane transport protein. As an example of the translocase TOM complex ( translocase of the outer mitochondrial membrane) of the mitochondrial outer membrane may be mentioned. The term is frequently used for transporting proteins in gram-positive bacteria.
