Transmashholding

The Transmashholding (Russian Трансмашхолдинг ) is a Russian engineering company and the largest manufacturer of railway vehicles nationwide. It was formed by a merger of several plants in different regions of the country in 2002.

General

The Moscow-based holding company is a public company whose majority shares nominally the Dutch investment company The Breakers Investments B. V. belongs, in turn, the Russian coal mining company Kusbassrasresugol ( Кузбассразрезуголь ) and is controlled by the transport undertaking Trans Group. Since December 2007, also the Russian Railways holds a 25 - percent package of the investment company, and a package of 25 % plus one share of The Breakers Investment on the French rail manufacturer Alstom was sold in March 2010, with the joint development and production of trains and locomotives is planned for the Russian market.

The Transmashholding has in Russia, among others, a market share of 98 % in the production of electric locomotives, 77 % for diesel locomotives and 85 % for electrically powered passenger trains. Moreover produce belonging to Transmashholding works goods and industrial cars, diesel engines for trains and ships, but also subway car. The most important customers of the production of TMH is the co-owner of Russian Railways; so for this local trains are now mostly produced by members of the TMH machine shop Demichowo, which took over after the collapse of the Soviet Union the largest market share in Russia in this segment instead of the Riga railway car factory.   • Beschizker steel plant in Bryansk: Founded in 1935, manufacturers of bogies and couplers for freight cars
  • Electric car repair workshop in October in St. Petersburg: Established in 1826, specializes in repair and modernization of railway wagons

In addition Transmashholding held 50% of the shares of the company Bombardier Transportation Transmashholding AG, which managed two joint projects between TMH and Bombardier Transportation; the latter held the remaining 50 %. The company was dissolved in 2010 after TMH had entered into a strategic partnership with Alstom.

The German FTD vehicle Dessau AG belonged from 2006 to 2008 for Transmashholding and was then taken by insolvency of the Romanian CTF.
