Transport in Kraków#Tram system

The Krakow tram ( Krakowski szybki Tramwaj ) is a current investment, which should produce a fast and comfortable connection between the northern and southern parts of the city of Krakow. After the completion of this project should be included in the approach to urban transport.

Planning history

In 1974 we began to build an underground tunnel for trams in the area of the main station. In 1990 they built a section in the length of 180 meters. In 1994, a document was acknowledged that accepted the rail as a new mass transit system. Since 1995 they have built over four years 605 meter tunnel under the " ul Lubomirskiego ".

The work was divided into several building lots.

  • Contract Section I (to be completed on 1 October 2000): " ul. Nowosądecka / ul Wielicka " construction of the tram line to Kurdwanów the road to Wieliczka ( ul Wielicka ) ( under which the construction of the terminal loop in Kurdwanów district, rebuilding the intersection and modernization of the track body on the road to Wieliczka )
  • Contract Section II ( completed in autumn 2008): Construction of the route from " Rondo Grzegórzeckie " after Krowodrza ( under its construction of the tunnel on the section "Rondo Mogilskie " - " Krakow Main Station Tunnel" - "Technical University / Politechnika Krakowska ") and the already finished modernization of the existing section of " ul Kamienna " the settlement " Krowodrza Górka ". On the route of the Krakow tram ( Premetro ), two underground stations " Politechnika " ( two stories ) and " Dworzec Główny Tunel " are (Hauptbahnhof). The line was put into operation on 11 December 2008.
  • Contract Section III (until end 2011): Construction of the tram line from "Rondo Grzegórzeckie " after " ul Wielicka " about the " Kotlarski Bridge " (Most Kotlarski )
  • Contract Section IV (to end 2013 ): Construction of the tram line at the " ul Lipska ".

Technical Remarks

Currently, the already completed rail lines are only served by tram line 50. This currently has a length of 14 kilometers, but it should be extended through various projects. The tram tracks lead through the first Polish city rail tunnel in which the trains at a speed of 60 km / h to drive. After planning should one need 30 minutes for the whole route.

Thus, the scoring on the freeways speed advantage is not given away to Red display signals, traffic signal interference is introduced which is implemented by Siemens. This system should be taken in the year of 2007, but what happened by the delay of the conversion of "Rondo Mogilskie " in November 2008.

Rolling stock

The Cracow rail will be operated by low-floor vehicles. Therefore, the Krakow transport companies have bought new trams for the operation of the light rail lines moderately developed. The choice fell on the NGT6 the Canadian company Bombardier Transportation. Until now, there were three deliveries:

For use on going in the next few years on the runways of ordering an additional 24 copies is provided, the choice was NGT8. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in March 2012. Provisionally are used purchased cars from Vienna to help out ( E1 c3 ), which in their old homes also in tunnels ( Ustrab ) were used. But your major disadvantage is a high-floor construction, which delays the exchange of passengers at stations.

After the completion of the second production batch, but before the completion of the third, the first rail line will be created by Kurdwanów on the Witosa, ul Nowosądecka, ul Wielicka, ul Limanowskiego, ul Na Zjeździe, ul Starowiślna, ul Dietla, ul Grzegórzecka, Al. Powstania Warszawskiego to Rondo Mogilskie, with the tunnel under the ul Lubomirskiego and the main train station to the output near Cracow University of Technology ( Politechnika Krakowska ), continue to ul Kamienna and the end point of the loop Krowodrza Górka (about 13 km).

Financing

The project is funded by the city. Since October 1998, the co-investor is the Krakow Development Agency ( Agencja Rozwoju Miasta Krakowa ). Loans from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the European Investment Bank are used to finance the investment.
