Trappe is a borough in Montgomery County ( Pennsylvania), USA.

Geography

Trappe is about 2 km north of the Schuylkill River and about 8 km northwest of Audubon ( Pennsylvania).

History

1717 began the settlement. The first post office was opened in 1794; it existed until 1929. 1911 organized to a fire station. 2009, a park was created. The population of Trappe was in 1940 about 500 people, in 1980 approximately 1800 people and 2010 approximately 3500 people.

Attractions

1743-1745 Augustus Lutheran Church was built. Since it is unchanged since then in the same use, it is the oldest church in the United States in this manner of use. The cost was £ 200. The design was made by Henry Melchior Muhlenberg, who was buried next to the church. It is a sandstone building with a wooden roof. The choir is half a hexagon in plan. During the American Revolution, the building served as a hospital for troops who had come through the soldiers trading under Landgrave Frederick II of Hesse -Kassel there. For space reasons, the service was held about 1860-1920 in a new brick building. During this time the old Krirche was used as a school. After renovations of the old building again serves as a church. In 1967 it was declared a National Historic Landmark.

Also the home of Henry Melchior Muhlenberg is obtained. It was renovated in 1995. Since 2000, it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Dewees Museum is an exhibition on local history is. The house dates from around 1750 and has since been used for various purposes.
