Travellers and Magicians ( Dzongkha: ཆང་ཧུབ་ཐེངས་གཅིག་གི་འཁྲུལ་སྣང ) is a film from Bhutan in 2003 It is the second internationally distributed feature film from Bhutan. .

The movie that was preceded by no assessment by the Federal Department for Media Harmful to Young, was broadcast on 12 December 2007 as a German television premiere on the German / French cultural channel Arte in original language with German subtitles.

Action

Dondup is a young villager from Bhutan with big plans: Going to America, the country whose rock music he hears constantly, the land of shoes he wears, and the land of the girl, in which he is in love. Therefore, he has little use for the traditions of their own country.

As Dondup travels to Thimphu to get the American visa, he encounters people who are trying more and more to keep him from his purpose: an apple dealer, a drunk, a widowed rice paper manufacturer and a Buddhist monk to his companions. The monk tells him the story of Tashi, a restless farm boy who dreamed as Dondup of a special life. From the history Dondup learns that you do not necessarily always have to go far away to find his fortune. However, it remains open whether Dondup gets the visa and emigrate to America, or not.

At Rotten Tomatoes, the film got 95 out of 100 percent.
