Travis Childers

Travis Wayne Childers ( born March 29, 1958 in Booneville, Prentiss County, Mississippi) is an American politician. From 2008 to 2011 he represented the first electoral district of the state of Mississippi in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Travis Childers attended until 1976, the Booneville High School and then to 1978 the Northeast Mississippi Junior College, also in Booneville. This was followed up in 1980 to study at the University of Mississippi in Oxford. After Childers worked in the real estate industry.

Between 1991 and 2008, Childers was administrative head of Chancery Court ( Chancery Clerk ) in Prentiss County. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party. After Congressman Roger Wicker of Governor Haley Barbour was appointed as successor to Trent Lott in the U.S. Senate, 2008 elections for the position of Congressman of the first constituency were advertised for April. These elections won Childers after a runoff election against Republican Greg Davis. Even with the regular elections of 2008, Childers put through against Davis.

From 13 May 2008 to January 3, 2011, he represented as an MP of his constituency 's interests in Congress. He was most recently a member of the Agriculture Committee and the Finance Committee as well as in two sub-committees. He was considered on certain areas rather than conservative, for example, was against a tightening of firearms legislation and against abortions. In the economic field, he was receptive to the positions of his party. Childers pushed for better education policy and a withdrawal of troops from Iraq.

With his wife Tami Childers has two children. Privately, he lives in Booneville.
