Treatise on the Resurrection

The Rheginusbrief is also known as the Treatise on the Resurrection. It is narrated in the Nag Hammadi Library, a collection of Gnostic texts. There, it is the fourth copy of the Code, also known as Jung first Code ( NHC I, 4 ). The manuscript dates from the first half of the 4th century, the work itself probably dates from the early 2nd century.

Content and classification

The relatively short letter from an unnamed teacher to his student deals with the resurrection of the believer. Negotiations, the kind of this can be or whether. Than immortality of the soul, as a resurrection of the body or as a rebirth Discussed is also when the resurrection takes place, whether in the moment of death, at Christ's return, or even more in life, and whether it is certain or whether it is " provable " in the philosophical sense:

On the one hand, the author follows ideas of New Testament letters (Ephesians, Colossians ) and develops them further, on the other hand, he uses the terms and concepts of Gnosticism, especially the Valentinianism.
