Treaty of Edinburgh

The Treaty of Edinburgh in 1560 ended the centuries-old Auld Alliance between Scotland and France.

According to the clauses of the contract, which was signed less than a month after the death of Marie de Guise on July 6, 1560, France withdrew its troops from Scotland and recognize the reign of Elizabeth of England. The eighteen- year-old Mary Stuart, who had remained in France, refused to sign the contract.

Background was the conclusion of the contract, that Scotland was reformed by John Knox and now wanted to lean against the also Protestant England.
