Treaty of Lyon (1601)

The Treaty of Lyon was an agreement between Charles Emmanuel, Duke of Savoy and the French king Henry IV.

French - Savoyard conflict

On January 17, 1601, Treaty of Lyon ended the conflict between France and Savoy. The central point of this conflict was primarily the Margraviate of Saluzzo, an enclave within Savoy, which was French since 1529 and the Charles Emmanuel had tried to annex in 1588.

France renounced by the contract to Saluzzo and received in return Valromey, Bugey, Bresse and the Pays de Gex.

Consequences for Geneva

The Treaty of Lyon Geneva was the first time a common border with France.
