Treaty of Paris (1814)

The First Peace of Paris was signed with the Peace and Friendship treaty in Paris on 30 May 1814 to the fall of Napoleon I. (11 April 1814) and ratified on 31 May 1814. He finished provisionally the Napoleonic Wars, also known as Russian - German - French war of 1812 and 1815.

Participant

The peace was concluded between the King of France, Louis XVIII. one hand, and the Allied Powers Austria, Britain, Prussia, the Russian Empire, Spain, Portugal, Sweden and Norway on the other.

Results

Then the kingdom of France was left within its borders from 1 January 1792 and also kept a portion of the former Sardinian Duchy of Savoy, the former papal possessions Avignon and venaissin and several former German and Belgian border districts and enclaves.

England retained Malta, Tobago, St. Lucia and Mauritius (Isle de France ), but returned all the other conquered colonies of France and the former Spanish share of Haiti (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) in Spain.

Sweden also gave the French island of Guadeloupe and French Guiana Portugal, the out again. The Netherlands should be placed and enlarged under the rule of the House of Orange. The German states, the independence and the union was assured by a federal band, as the Switzerland of their independence and self-government. In contrast, Italy should, except the Austria slamming provinces, consist of nothing but sovereign states. The boat trip on the Rhine to the sea ( jusqu'à la mer ) was declared free, as is the navigation on the Scheldt.

Final provisions

The Congress of Vienna in the final resolution of the preliminary provisions was transferred.
