Treaty of Peace and Friendship (1904)

The peace treaty of 1904 between Chile and Bolivia was signed on 20 October 1904 and formally ended the saltpeter. The document defines the boundary between the two countries through 96 border points.

  • Bolivia recognizes in the contract to the Chilean sovereignty over the former Bolivian coastal region of Antofagasta.
  • Chile recognizes the right of Bolivia to trade at between Chilean ports on the Pacific Ocean and the Bolivian territory.

For this, the contract provides, inter alia the construction of the railway line Arica -La Paz.

Previously, Chile and Peru had (former ally in the war against Bolivia Chile) in 1884 signed a peace treaty, the Treaty of Ancon.
