Treaty of Rome (1924)

The Treaty of Rome on January 27, 1924 was an agreement between Fascist Kingdom of Italy and the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes, the parts of the border treaty of Rapallo, the Free State of Fiume was created by the 1920 revised.

Content

Italy and the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes agreed about that Fiume, now Rijeka in Croatia, was annexed by Italy; during the Serb-Croat- Slovene State Susak received. The Port Authority was executed together.

Background

Immediately after its independence of the State of Fiume was recognized by the major Western powers, the U.S., France and Britain. On April 21, 1921 Riccardo Zanella was elected president. The fascist governor Francesco Giunta (1887-1971) forced Zanella in March 1922 resignation. On September 17, 1923, the Italian General Gaetano Giardino was sent by Benito Mussolini to Fiume, to restore order. At the same time, Mussolini began with the Kingdom of Yugoslavia to negotiate.

After the contract was closed, it was deposited with the League of Nations Treaty Series on April 7, 1924 .. A joint commission regulated on July 20, 1925, the details of the border.
