Treben

Treben is a municipality in the Thuringian district Altenburger Land. It is the seat of the administrative community Pleißenaue and is located about seven kilometers north of the county town of Altenburg.

Geography

The municipality extends to the right and left side of the splices with the inflow Gerstenberg and is located in the flood plain, so the consequences of the 2002 floods were devastating, the main town was almost completely under water. First flood control dams were heaped up in 1839, however, brought these lack the necessary successes, so that 1951-1953 the dam Windischleuba had to be created. Today it serves not to protect against floods, moreover, they silted up rapidly.

Districts are adjacent to the main town Treben the former municipalities Plottendorf, Primmelwitz, Serbitz, Lehma and Trebanz.

History

First mentioned in a document of 1181 as a place Sorbian place. The manor was first mentioned in 1329, then most likely a water castle. The present building was erected in 1543 and is now home to both community and association management. The Church in the immediate vicinity of the mansion was built in the second half of the 15th century and contains a Kreutz Bach organ from 1862. Due to lignite mining in the south of Leipzig was established in 1854 in Plottendorf a pottery factory, in 1821 began the dismantling of a 10 meter thick Braunkohleflözes in Serbitz.

There are in the town four memorials that commemorate the fallen of the First World War in Treben, Serbitz, Plottendorf and Lehma.

In the district Plottendorf 33 forced laborers were housed in 1942 in a camp who had to work in Schwelwerk Regis.

Incorporations

Plottendorf and Primmelwitz arrived on July 1, 1950 to the municipality. Serbitz was incorporated on May 1, 1965. Lehma and Trebanz, which were removed from the city Meuselwitz, were added on December 30, 2008.

The composition of the Municipal Council was elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 by majority vote.

The turnout was 51.0 %.

The breakpoint Treben - Lehma is on the railway line from Leipzig -Hof. By Treben and Serbitz the highway passes 93

Education

Treben is the seat of a State normal school ( middle school ).

Manor Treben

In the listed company of the former Treben the manor to the next to the mansion, two additional buildings include cultural events take place regularly, such as concerts, cabaret, book readings, lectures and exhibitions. It is also the seat of the administrative community Pleißenaue. The northern part of the mansion was originally a castle of the Viscount of Altenburg. For the restoration and use of the mansion the community Treben 2006 received the Thuringian listed price. On event days and on request the estate can be visited.
