The Trebižat is a right tributary of the Neretva in Herzegovina, in southern Bosnia and Herzegovina. The total length of the river is about 50 km, where only the lower 30 km bear the name Trebižat. The most important of the three rivers source is the Tihaljina, which rises to 903 meters above sea level in the field of community Posušje. The other source rivers are Vrlika and Mlade.

Course

The Trebižat bears his name from the union of the source rivers Tihaljina and Vrlika near the village Vitina, in the municipality of Ljubuški whose territory is almost completely traversed from northwest to southeast from the river. Ljubuški is also the largest town on the flow of the river. In the area of this city of Trebižat flows through a wide valley, which is used especially for growing grapes. About five kilometers southeast of Ljubuški the valley narrows and begins an area with numerous rapids and waterfalls, of which the Kravica Falls are the most famous. From the same place Trebižat the valley widens again before the river flows near Čapljina in the Neretva.

Use

While the area is mainly used for agriculture at the headwaters of Trebižat, the area between Ljubuški and Trebižat is a nature reserve in which a nature -based tourism develops. In addition to many fishing here also canoe rafting is offered.
