Tree traversal

Dating from the Latin language word traversal ( verb in French: traverser, English: to traverse ) is variously " pass through something cross " in the sense of hand.

Graph Theory

Traversal is in graph theory is the name for methods that determine a route, where each node and each edge of a tree-shaped graph is visited exactly once. The two most popular methods are breadth-first search and depth-first search. For binary trees are special traversals, which is called linearization.

Measurement

A traversal refers to a positioning system for sensors etc. Applied example it is in the particle image velocimetry for the measurement of flow processes. The traversal of the task, the camera or the laser light to drive in the right position in the room here. Most 2-axis traversals are used, ie it can be vertically and horizontally chosen a position and very precise approached.

Hypertext

In hypertexts have links. Here, a source and a target point is always given. If a link is activated, it is automatically traversal to the target point.

Movement

For different sports activities has " traverse " means " an area obliquely or traverse across ":

  • Horse riding: ride through the hippodrome in the diagonal direction, the movement is forward - sideways
  • Mountaineering: the terrain horizontally, ie without any significant change in altitude, traverse
  • Fencing: failed sideways
