Crown Tree Swift ( Hemiprocne coronata )

The Tree Swift ( Hemiprocne ) constitute a genus in the same family of tree bats ( Hemiprocnidae ) within the order of sailors birds ( Apodiformes ). This genus includes four species. The tree crown sailors ( Hemiprocne coronata ) is seen by some zoologists as a subspecies of tree canopy glider ( Hemiprocne longipennis ).

Tree sailors inhabit the forests of India, Southeast Asia to Indonesia and Sulawesi. They are gregarious birds and live in small groups in forest clearings, forest edges or along rivers. Characteristic are the deeply forked tail and long primaries. In contrast to the sailors ( Apodidae ) her legs are well trained so that they are able to sit on the branches of the trees. Thus they move less flying ahead and return after a successful hunt on a regular basis to their seats back.

Her small trough-shaped nests are built from parts of plants, such as tree bark, which are fastened together with saliva and to a tree. The nest inside can only accommodate an egg that is colored white to bluish. When the adult birds brooding cover through their breast feathers puffed up the egg.
