Treis-Karden

Treis- carding on the Mosel is a municipality in the district Cochem-Zell, in Rhineland -Palatinate. It is the administrative seat of the collective municipality of Treis- carding, which it also belongs. Treis- carding is a nationally recognized tourist and reported as a basic center in accordance with state planning. The present district of carding was written officially Carden to 6 December 1935.

Geography

Treis- carding is in the " Klotten - Treiser Moselle valley " in the conservation area " Mosel region of Schweich to Koblenz ". History

Already in the 4th century, St. Castor is said to have founded in carding ( vicus Cardena ) a Christian community. The bones of the castor of cards came in the 9th century, mostly in the Kastor of Koblenz. Carding ( Cardena ) was of great importance in antiquity and the Middle Ages. The history of the site was determined from the existing to 1802 Collegiate. Carding was the center of an archdeaconry. The provost of the pin was in personal union of the five archdeacons of the Archbishopric of Trier.

Treis was the capital of the Trechirgaus. The extinction of Gaugrafen (Berthold / Bezeline ) end of the 11th century led to a series of confrontations. From 1794, both places were under French rule. In 1815 they were assigned to the Kingdom of Prussia at the Congress of Vienna. Since 1946, both places are part of Rhineland- Palatinate then newly founded.

On 7 June 1969, the new congregation of Treis- carding was formed from the two previously independent municipalities Treis and cards.

Attractions

  • The former collegiate church of St. Castor in carding (originally a Romanesque building ) is considered " Moseldom ". A pin Museum recalls the glorious past of the town.

Traffic

At the station of carding keep every two hours regional express trains on Line 1 between Koblenz and Saarbrücken and regional trains of line 81 running between Koblenz and Trier.

Carding is located on the B 416, which ends there. Between Treis and cards which B crosses the Mosel 49. Buses connect Treis- carding with the surrounding municipalities in the Eifel and Hunsrück.

In the years before the First World War were planning a railway line along the right bank of the Moselle from Bullay to Koblenz and thus also to build on Treis. As part of a strategic railway then in 1917 started the construction. But were completed only in 2565 meter long tunnel Treiser, which should shorten the Moselbogen of Treis after Bruttig, as well as the afferent from both places embankments. The works were finally closed in 1924. In the tunnel, electronic components in 1944, as part of a program to transfer production of essential goods in war -protected underground facilities, produces. The Moselle Bridge, planned in 1878, 1925 could be built. It was not destroyed in 1945, but already rebuilt in 1946.
