TrekStor

The TrekStor GmbH is a German hardware company. The product range includes USB flash drives, external hard drives, satellite receiver, MP3 player, e -book readers, tablet computers and other products in the field of consumer electronics. The company is a subsidiary of Hong Kong Telefield International ( Holdings) Limited.

History

The company was founded in 2001 as TrekStor GmbH & Co. KG of Daniel Szmigiel Lorsch in Hesse, a small town between Mannheim and Frankfurt. Initially focused on USB sticks, MP3 player in 2003 and external hard drives were added to the product offering.

In Lorsch are, inter alia, to the distribution parts of the production, development and quality management, the bulk of production takes place in Asia. After the founding of the number of employees increased rapidly, 2005, total revenues amounted to 145 million euros. In 2007, sales amounted to more than 135 million euros.

In August 2007, TrekStor excited with an unfortunate naming a stir: A black MP3 player from the i.Beat series was announced in a press release as i.Beat blaxx, which is pronounced like " I beat blacks " (I suggest black ). After a negative posting on Gizmodo the player was renamed TrekStor blaxx one days thereafter.

TrekStor fell in the following years into a crisis, on 21 July 2009, the Company reported eventually filed for bankruptcy. After a mass credit and entry of Telefield International ( Holding) Limited was founded in early November 2009, the new TrekStor GmbH, which took over & Co. KG under an asset deal, employee, inventory and property rights of the former Trekstor GmbH.

The company introduced before the end of 2010 an e -book reader and more products from the Mobile area. For example, a portable UMTS -WLAN hotspot and two smartphones were presented based on Android in collaboration with the Chinese company Huawei.

Since 2012, through the Association of German Book Trade TrekStor Liro Ink, an e- book reader with electronic ink, sold. Also, tablet computers have become part of the company's portfolio.
