The stair storage is a small outbuilding, are stored in the goods. In the upper floor of the store you get usually on an outside on the gable mounted staircase, which gave its name to the building.

Stairs storage are only relatively small buildings. They are witnesses to the craft skills of peasant carpenter. The solid timber construction caused a drought in the interior, and was so dense verbohlt that the stored goods was protected from mice. The memory used to be though in sight, but built with distance from the house. In case of fire the farmhouse the fire could not spread to the stored commodity.

Stairs storage were characteristic in the Lüneburg Heath. Here, the memory essence remained until well into the 19th century alive. But they are disappearing because they are no longer viable today. The storerooms are today usually in the house itself

They used to stand on any heath farm at least one, but usually several memories which are all served specific purposes. It was housed grain, buckwheat, flax, yarn, linen, wool, honey, meat, bacon, and clothing. Often, they also served as a sleeping place for the servants.
