Treutlen County, Georgia

The Treutlen County is a county located in the state of Georgia in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Soperton.

Geography

The County is located in east-central Georgia and has an area of 524 square kilometers, of which four square kilometers of water surface, and borders clockwise to the following counties: Emanuel County, Montgomery County, Wheeler County and Laurens County.

History

Treutlen County was formed on 21 August 1917 as 152 County in Georgia from portions of Emanuel County and Montgomery County. It was named after John Adam Treutlen, who was born in 1734 in Kürnbach ( district of Karlsruhe ) was born and the first elected governor of Georgia was.

Demographic data

According to the census of 2000, there were 6,854 people in Treutlen County. Of these, 388 people were living in collective centers, the other residents living in 2,531 households and 1,824 families. The population density was 13 people per square kilometer. The average household size was 2.55 and the average family size was 3.05.

26.0 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 11.9 percent between 18 and 24 years, 27.2 percent between 25 and 44 years, 21.7 percent between 45 and 64 years and 13.2 percent were 65 years or older. The average age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 98.7 males statistically every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.1 males.

The median income for a household was $ 24,644, and the median income for a family $ 32,762. Males have a median income of $ 26,476, women $ 20,286. The per capita income was $ 13,122. 20.8 percent of families and 26.3 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
