Trevi nel Lazio

Trevi nel Lazio is a municipality in the province of Frosinone in the Italian region Latium, located about 1827 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012). It is located 79 km east of Rome and 43 km north of Frosinone.

Geography

Trevi is above the valley of the Aniene in the Regional Park of Simbruini, a promontory of Abruzzo.

The municipality consists of lying on the south side of the valley districts Altipiani di Arcinazzo and Cimetta which are already in the Monti Ernici. Trevi is a member of the Comunità Montana Monti Ernici.

History

Trevi was named Treba a city of Aequians, which was incorporated BC the Roman Empire in the 4th century. In the imperial period it got the name Treba Augusta.

In the Middle Ages closed the place in order to protect itself against the claims of the Abbey of Subiaco, the counts of Segni. Later, it came to the Caetani. 1471 Cristoforo Caetani was driven out of the population. So it came to 1638 but in the possession of the Abbots of Subiaco.

After the Second World War Trevi suffered by strong depopulation. Meanwhile, however, caused by the construction of a thermal bath and the use of Altipiano di Arcinazzo new jobs in tourism.

From 1970-78 Trevi gave the titular Trebia Augusta his name.

Attractions

  • The massive Castello Caetani dates from the 13th century. It was renovated in 1984-1998 and since then houses an archaeological museum, meeting rooms and the tourist information center.
  • The Gothic cathedral of San Teodoro is on a early Christian predecessor
  • In all over the place are still remnants from the time of Aequians and the Roman see.
