Trevor Nunn

Sir Trevor Nunn CBE (born 14 January 1940 in Ipswich ) is a British theater and film director.

He was both a director of the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC ) and the Royal National Theatre. In both positions, he was the successor of Sir Peter Hall. He was knighted by the queen to Sir 2002.

Life

Trevor Nunn was born in Ipswich, England. His father was a carpenter. After leaving school he studied at Downing College, Cambridge. During his studies he joined the " Marlowe Society " and began his stage career in 1960, first in a supporting role. His performance as a director of the student production of Shakespeare's Macbeth was great, so you moved to a professional stage in Cambridge. He was appointed director of the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1968. He held this position until 1986. Between 1997 to 2003 he headed the Royal National Theatre in London.

Nunn was responsible for many innovative productions, such as Nicholas Nickleby by Charles Dickens. He is a very successful director of musicals such as Cats (1981 ) and the first English-language production of Les Misérables. He also directed Starlight Express and Sunset Boulevard. Its production of Les Misérables Victor Hugo was 22 years in the West End, London, and underwent several performances on Broadway.

He has also directed operas at Glyndebourne Director. His work for television, he began with Antony and Cleopatra in 1974 and for the film with the Oscar-nominated version of Henrik Ibsen's Hedda Gabler.

Sir Trevor married in 1994 his third wife 21 years younger British actress Imogen Stubbs, the couple had two children.
