Tricarico

Tricarico is a municipality in the province of Matera in the region of Basilicata.

In Tricarico 5605 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012). The town is located 53 km west of Matera.

The neighboring municipalities are Albano di Lucania (PZ ), Brindisi di Montagna (PZ ), Calciano, Campomaggiore (PZ ), Grassano, Grottole, Irsina, San Chirico Nuovo (PZ ), Tolve (PZ ) and Vaglio Basilicata ( PZ).

The town was founded in ancient times. He is one of the oldest towns in the region.

In Tricarico was the hometown of the poet Rocco Scotellaro.

With the South Hessian municipality Bickenbach Tricarico has a town twinning.
