As the triceps surae (Latin for " three-headed calf muscle " ) are in the anatomy three skeletal muscles summarized:

• Lateral head of the gastrocnemius muscle
• Medial head of the gastrocnemius muscle
• Soleus muscle

Their common tendon is known as Achilles tendon.
