Tricholaema

The Haarbärtlinge ( Tricholaema ) are a genus within the family of the African barbets. They are found only on the African continent. Only the spots Barbet and the diadem Barbet have here a distribution area, which is partly north of the equator. There are six main ways, all of which are classified as not at risk ( least concern ) by the IUCN. The German name Haarbärtlinge points out that individual springs in the chest area have long, hair-like tips.

Appearance

Haarbärtlinge are relatively small beard birds whose wings length is around eight inches. The body top is black with yellow spots, and in some species also white feather hems. Great resemblance to the Haarbärtlingen has the yellow stain Barbet, but which is placed in a separate genus Buccanodon.

Way of life

Haarbärtlinge are territorial birds that defend a small area. To their food range includes insects, fruits and seeds. The Miombo Barbet probably also eats nestlings and eggs of other birds. The representatives of the genus are cavity nesters, which presumably all rooms their nests themselves. When Rotstirn Barbet can even find a tendency to spread in the southwest of South Africa's Cape Province, since more and more non-native tree species will be planted in the wood he can hack caves.
