Triclopyr is a chemical compound selected from the group consisting of pyridine carboxylic acids.
Properties
Triclopyr is a white solid which is moderately soluble in water. It is stable to hydrolysis.
Synthesis
The synthesis of triclopyr is based on pyridine, which is chlorinated to pentachloropyridine. The chlorine atom in the para-position is removed with hydrazine. The 2,3,5,6- tetrachloropyridine reacts with potassium cyanide or sodium and trioxane to last intermediate that carboxylated with hydrogen chloride to triclopyr.
Use
Triclopyr is used as an active ingredient in pesticides. It is a systemic and a selective herbicide of the class of growth substances.
The EU Commission adopted triclopyr with effect from 1 June 2007 for use as herbicide in the list of permitted pesticide active ingredients.
In Germany and Switzerland pesticides are approved with this drug.
