The Triebener Tauern is a mountain pass through the Lower Tauern in Styria ( Austria ). It lies on the boundary between Seckauer and Rottenmanner Tauern and connects the Mur at Jews castle ( Aichfeld ) with the Paltental in drives via Triebener Road ( B114 ).

The pass is at 1274 m above sea level. A. Within the village of Hohen Tauern.

During the approximately 30 km long southern ramp takes a smooth course through the valley of Pölsbaches, the north ramp runs in the valley of the Tauern stream and overcomes at 8 km in length 569 meters. Due to the topographical situation of this increase occurs mainly in two 2.5 km long steep sections. The upper steep section has been expanded in the 1970s, with the maximum slope of 21% reduced to 13%.

The lower steep section between shoots and had sunk to October 2008, with gradients of up to 16 %, with some curves were aggravating. In addition, the steep path led directly into the center of stems. Despite restrictions for heavy vehicles, it always came back to dangerous situations due to defective or overheated brakes. On 8 August 1991 came from a Hungarian coach off the road and plunged into the depths, where 13 people lost their lives.

On 21 June 2006, the first sod was turned into a complete construction of the section between shoots and Sunk. Since it also came on the stretch of road again and again to mass movements that required a level of restoration effort, it was decided to build the new road on the west side of the geologically favorable Wolf trench. To defuse the slope ratios two bends were built. The steep terrain required extensive hillside fortifications and the construction of large retaining walls. On 23 October 2008, the traffic handover the newly built track now has just more than 10% slope was. Because of the winding road course persist weight and length restrictions.

The old section of road has been dismantled to a forest road. Large parts of the road route were filled with rock material eroded and bridges.
