Trierarch

The trierarchy was an important official of the military Leiturgie in Athens. A trierarch (Greek τριήραρχος ) undertook long equip a trireme for one year and to command.

The trierarchy was 483/482 BC, introduced as a replacement for the Naukraries that no longer met since initiated by Themistocles naval. Later could command other warships than triremes trierarchs.
