Trifluoroiodomethane is a chemical compound from the group of halogenated hydrocarbons.
Production and representation
Trifluoroiodomethane can be obtained by reaction of sodium trifluoroacetate or silver trifluoroacetate with iodine.
Properties
Trifluoroiodomethane is a colorless, non-flammable, light-sensitive gas.
Use
Trifluoroiodomethane delivers on heating and on irradiation with UV light free CF3 radicals and therefore suitable for the synthesis of numerous compounds of the type CF3 ( CF2 ) n and organometallic compounds and organometalloider. It has an ozone depletion potential of 0.01-0.02.
