Trigg County, Kentucky

Trigg County is a county located in the state of Kentucky in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Cadiz. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

Geography

The County is located in southwestern Kentucky, bounded on the south by the State of Tennessee and has an area of 1246 square kilometers, of which 98 square kilometers are water surface. It borders in Kentucky clockwise to the following counties: Lyon County, Caldwell County, Christian County, Calloway County and Marshall County.

History

Trigg County was formed on January 27, 1820 from parts of Calswell County and Christian County. It was named after Colonel Stephen Trigg, a pioneer in this area.

According to the census of 2000, there were 12,597 people in Trigg County. Of these, 111 people were living in collective centers, the other residents living in 5,215 households and 3,765 families.
