Trigono (Greek Τρίγωνο (n. sg. ) ) Was a town founded in the context of Greek local government reform in 1997 in the prefecture of Evros, which belonged to the geographical region of Western Thrace. Center of the community was the small town Dikea. Together with two other communities went Trigono 2010 in the town of Orestiada on in which it has since formed a district.

Geographical Location

Trigono ( "triangle", according to the shape of his face which is bounded on the north by the Evros River and the south by the Ardas ) the northernmost municipality of Greece. Their territory is located on the border of Bulgaria / Turkey / Greece. Due to its geographical location Trigono forms the input and transit zone for traffic from the Balkan and Black Sea countries towards the Aegean Sea via the port of Alexandroupolis.

Boroughs

The total community Trigono created by the merger of the ten individual communities Arzos, Dikea, Elea, Komara, Ormenio, Pendalofos, Petrota, Plati, Ptelea, Spileo and the seven settlements Dilofos, Therapio, Canada, Krios, Marasia, Milea and Palli. Administrative center and the seat of the mayor was Dikea, it is located on the connecting road Ormenio - Alexandroupolis ( National Road 51, European route 85) to the motorway " Egnatia ". In the area of present-day municipality Trigono live around 6,500 inhabitants. The total surface area is 372 km ² ( about 8.75 % of the Evros Prefecture). The population of the villages of Trigono is a mixture of groups of different origins, some refugees from North and Eastern Thrace ( population exchange in 1922 ), partly indigenous population.
