Trimble is a leading provider of geodetic systems and was founded in 1978 and headquartered in Sunnyvale, California. Today, Trimble has employees in more than 18 countries. Production can be found among others in Sweden, France and Germany. The company is a leading provider of Global Positioning System (GPS ) technologies. However, not only GPS components are produced, but also GPS systems developed and combined with other positioning technologies, mobile communication and software.

A central component of the company's philosophy is to provide the surveyors with not only individual components but mutually compatible and integrated systems.

The Trimble Jena GmbH since 2001 is a 100 % subsidiary of Trimble Group. In July 2011, Trimble acquired the Finnish company Tekla. , In January 2012, the Plancal AG in Switzerland. In April 2012, Trimble acquired by Google, the software product SketchUp.
