Trimesic acid, besides the hemimellitic (1,2,3 -benzenetricarboxylic acid ) and trimellitic acid (1,2,4- benzenetricarboxylic acid ) is one of three possible positional isomers of benzene tricarboxylic acids.
Production and representation
Trimesic acid is prepared by oxidation of mesitylene.
Properties
Trimesic is a beige solid which is soluble in water. He is able to form a plurality of complexes by hydrogen bonding and also occurs in two hydrate forms (dihydrate and 5/6 hydrate).
Use
Trimesic is an important raw material for the synthesis of surface coating resins, plasticizers, polyesters, epoxy additive to resins, dyes, etc. It is used for the modification of line rare polyesters.
