Trimurti

Trimurti (Sanskrit त्रिमूर्ति Trimurti; " three forms " ) is a concept of Hinduism, which the union of the three cosmic functions of creation, preservation and destruction / transformation through the visualization of the great gods Brahma as the creator, Vishnu the Preserver, Shiva represents as the destroyer. The Trimurti symbolizes that all divine operations of a unit go out because the three aspects are mutually dependent and complement; it represents the formless Brahman and expresses the creating, preserving and destroying aspects of this supreme being.

Representation

The Trimurti is either next to each other by the three gods, as a single figure with three heads, or in a three-headed figure with six arms that now personal imaginary Brahma with water jug and prayer chain shows Vishnu with discus and conch to and Shiva with his trident and the small double drum Damaru.

Importance

The Trimurti is often explained by Indian philosopher from the three gunas, the basic causes of the effects and activities:

  • Tamas is ignorance, inertia, mental darkness, and are associated with Shiva, who destroys them;
  • Rajas, activity, passion and a new beginning is associated with Brahma,
  • Sattva means clarity, kindness and harmony and is associated with Vishnu.

The Gunas are assigned colors: black for Tamas, Rajas for red and white for sattva. Likewise, one of the Trimurti, the elements of earth ( Brahma ), water ( Vishnu) and fire ( Shiva) to.

The Trimurti is the conceptual unity of the tripartite cosmic principle, similar to the Christian Trinity, and no triad, ie no three different, belonging together deities, as known in most polytheistic mythologies. The Christian concept of the Trinity with God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit differs in interpretation and philosophy of religion of the Hindu.
