Trinity College, Dublin (Irish Coláiste na Tríonóide, Baile Átha Cliath ) is a reputed university in the Irish capital Dublin.

Trinity College is the only college of the University of Dublin; it should not be confused with the University College Dublin, part of the National University of Ireland, or Dublin City University, formerly the National Institute for Higher Education. Trinity College is a member of the Coimbra Group - founded in 1985 partly network of leading European universities.

History

Trinity College was founded in 1592 by Queen Elizabeth I as the " College of the Holy and Undivided Trinity " ( " University of the Holy Trinity and Some " ) for Protestant students. The building had previously served as an Augustinian monastery.

Old Library ( " Long Room " )

The main attraction is the 1732 -built Old Library, the famous Book of Kells, but also the oldest harp in Ireland are kept in the ancient texts in addition to 200,000. Spectacular is the Long Room - a nearly 65 -meter-long space where the most valuable books are kept.

Campanile

The 30 meter high bell tower ( campanile ) dates from 1853. It was built by Sir Charles Lanyon, the architect of Queen's University in Belfast.

Chapel

The chapel is located on Parliament Square ( the main square of the College). It was built in 1798 and was the first university chapel of the Republic, which is used across denominational.

Examination hall

The exam hall was completed according to plans by Sir William Chambers in 1791. The examination hall adjacent to the Parliament Square.
