Trinket Island

(Also called Trinkat, nico barbaric: Laful ) Trinket is an Indian island and belongs to the Nicobar Islands in the Indian Ocean.

It is located east of the neighboring islands Camorta and Nancowry.

According to the Indian census of 2001, there were on the island of 436 people in four villages: the largest was trinket, then came Safebalu, Tapiang and Hock Cook. At this time, the island had an area of 86.3 sq. km.

1778 the island from the East India Trading Company Trieste was declared an Austrian crown colony. 1784, this claim has been abandoned.

In the great tidal waves of the tsunami as a result of severe tsunami in the Indian Ocean in 2004 Trinket was devastated, the area was reduced significantly and the island was split in two. 91 people were killed. The survivors were then evacuated to neighboring islands.
