Fentin hydroxide is a chemical compound from the group of organotin compounds. When heated above 45 ° C it is dehydrated to form bis ( triphenyltin ) oxide.
Production and representation
Fentin hydroxide can be recovered in a Grignard reaction followed by reaction with sodium hydroxide by the reaction of chlorobenzene with magnesium, tin (IV ) chloride.
Use
Fentin hydroxide was used as a fungicide, especially against the blight. It was approved in Germany 1971-2001.
The European Commission decided in 2002 not to include Fentin hydroxide because of the potential hazard to users and non-target organisms in the list of authorized active substances of plant protection products. In Germany, Austria and Switzerland, no plant protection products containing this active ingredient are allowed.
